An Evening with Lucius: Interview with Alicia Michaels (The Bionic Series)

12:35 am

This is my first author interview so pardon for my somewhat generic questions.
I feel so honored to be able to interview Alicia Michaels, the author of the Sharing Spaces Series, The Lost Kingdom of Fallada Series, and the Bionics series!

About the author:

Mother of 2 and Army wife. Lover of coffee, chocolate and good books. Writer of YA Fantasy that stretches the imagination. When not writing, I can usually be found reading.

You can contact her and check out her other books below:

More about the author:

Q: Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am an Army wife and mother of three who loves the written word more than anything! I'm a Texas native who loves shoes, food (especially chocolate), and the witer's lifeblood--coffee.

Q: Do you have any embarrassing childhood stories you'd like to tell us?
I'm afraid my entire childhood is one huge embarrassing story. I was a nerdy late bloomer who got bullied mercilessly so I kept mostly to myself. I was clumsy so there was lots of tripping, falling, and dropping things.

Q: When you aren't making chapters for your books, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I like to read of course, and I spend time with  my kids. I'm also kind of crafty so I enjoy sewing and making things. Pinterest is kind of my happy place. I also love to cook, so most nights I make dinner from scratch because it relaxes me.

Q: IF you could be a piece of food for a day, what would it be and why?
A beet . . . because they're disgusting and nobody would want to eat me.

Q: If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
Queen Elizabeth . . . not the current Queen of England, the legendary Elizabeth I. I am so intrigued by her story and her strength as a woman.

About the series:

Q: Who was your inspiration for Blythe and Dax? A special someone in your life? A childhood friend?
All of my characters have a bit in me in them, sort of like a signature. Blythe is a lot more like me than most of my characters. She's got a lot of attitude, which she definitely gets from me! Dax is kind of my dream guy, actually. Strong with a soft side, a bit rough around the edges but sensitive to his core, loyal to the  people he cares about.

Q: Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?
The Bionics Series was originally self-published before I was approached by Clean Teen Publishing and asked to contract with their adult imprint, Crimsom Tree. They really believed in the story and were excited to get behind it. Before that, I spent a lot of time looking for an agent or publisher, which is a difficult process. Publishing is a business and  can often be brutal. Rejection will always come before acceptance, and sometimes that rejection can take it's toll. But hanging in there has proved to be the best decision I could have ever made.

Q: What project are you working on right now?
I am currently working on Revolt, the sixth book in The Bionics Series.

Q: Do you have any advice for those aspiring writers reading this blog post? Because I know that your book/s inspired a lot of teenagers to want to write their own novels because of you.
Always stay true to yourself and your voice. People will try to tell you to follow trends, to write what everyone else is writing. But I firmly believe that everyone has a story, and you have the motivation and resilience to write and perfect your story . . . if you have the courage to put that story out there . . . then you should stand by it. And even after you publish your first book, always strive for what's next. Write the next book and the next book.
