Plot Synopsis:
Two years before Beatrice Prior made her choice, the sixteen-year-old son of Abnegation's faction leader did the same. Tobias's transfer to Dauntless is a chance to begin again. Here, he will not be called the name his parents gave him. Here, he will not let fear turn him into a cowering child.
Newly christened "Four," he discovers during initiation that he will succeed in Dauntless. Initiation is only the beginning, though; Four must claim his place in the Dauntless hierarchy. His decisions will affect future initiates as well as uncover secrets that could threaten his own future—and the future of the entire faction system.
Two years later, Four is poised to take action, but the course is still unclear. The first new initiate who jumps into the net might change all that. With her, the way to righting their world might become clear. With her, it might become possible to be Tobias once again.
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth comes a companion volume to the worldwide bestselling divergent series, told from the perspective of the immensely popular character Tobias. The four pieces included here—The Transfer, The Initiate, The Son, and The Traitor—plus three additional exclusive scenes, give readers an electrifying glimpse into the history and heart of Tobias, and set the stage for the epic saga of the Divergent trilogy.
The Review
I can just hear thousands of fangirls screaming his name alongside "-Will you marry me?!?!" and "-I love you!!!!1!!" from just the mere mention of him! hahahahaha! XD
I guess Veronica Roth wanted to tell the origin story of Four and because of the thousands upon thousands of fans (Me included!) who wanted more of his side of the story!
Unfortunately, (For me, anyway) we'll be having Eric back (Y'know, Macklemore look-alike in the movie? Everything was fine and dandy 'till he came to Dauntless.). 'Cuz you guys know I don't like Eric and 'his' 'new ideas' that's no good for Dauntless.
These stories--especially The Transfer and The Initiate--explains further how Tobias's soft-ish Abnegation personality turned to that of the cool badass that we know and love in the series.
Like how and why he got his tattoos, how he became an initiation instructor, when he got his nickname and really explains a lot of things not present in Divergent. Because originally, the Divergent series was originally told in the perspective of Tobias, but Veronica Roth didn't quite get the feel of him as the the narrator in the scenes, so she went and made the Tris Prior that we all know and love! XD
The Traitor happens during the middle of Divergent. (Y'know, around the time of Edward? You know what I'm talking 'bout! XD)
You'll see a lot more eerie similarities between Tris and Four's experiences than you previously thought possible. (Both being Abnegation-transfers isn't the only similarity that you'll see, trust me on this! *Thumbs up*) I didn't know that Four could be a teenager in the sense that he still had the anxiaty and fear of not being able to fit in, its strange seeing him look so . . . normal.
Veronica Roth was also generous enough to write 14 pages of never before-read scenes that blends in to the events of the first book in the vantage point of--gasp--Four!!!
According to the author, this book serves as a prequel to the series and that she said "The E-shorts will address Tobias’s backstory and some of the mysterious things going on in the world before Tris chose Dauntless. Together, they form a kind of Tobias-centered Divergent prequel, though there is some overlap."
<4
I am not Tobias Eaton, not anymore, never again. I am Dauntless.
